English Abstract

Medium-voltage direct current (MVDC) distribution networks are emerging as a promising architecture for next-generation distribution systems due to their improved efficiency, controllability, and compatibility with DC-based resources. However, the absence of standardized data exchange mechanisms and CIM-compliant modeling structures for MVDC components limits the development of interoperable energy management system (EMS) applications, including topology processor (TP) and online load flow (LF) analysis. This paper presents a set of CIM-based standardized data exchange interfaces with newly defined extensions to accurately model MVDC-specific devices such as DC/DC converters, soft open points (SOPs), DC loads, and DC junctions. Three dedicated CIM profiles, the DB-to-TP, FEP-to-TP, and TP-to-LF profiles, are designed to support role-based information exchange between EMS applications using RDF/XML serialization aligned with the IEC 61970 standard. A SHACL-based validation strategy is further presented to ensure semantic consistency and syntactic correctness of exchanged payloads. The profiles and CIM extensions are implemented and evaluated in a testbed that emulates an MVDC EMS architecture. Interoperability tests demonstrate that the generated RDF/XML payloads are compact, efficiently parsed, and fully conformant to SHACL rules, confirming their suitability for real-time EMS operation. The results highlight the practical applicability and scalability of the proposed CIM extensions and profiles for online LF analysis in MVDC distribution networks, providing a foundation for interoperable MVDC EMS deployments.
